As Christians, we are meant to read the bible, study it, and even memorize it. But that is not the purpose of the Bible. God gave us His word so we can live it out. That means the form in which we consume His word doesn’t matter – whether it’s paper, digital, or on a billboard, it really doesn’t matter. What matters is its final destination – our hearts- and how we are able to express it through our lives. God’s goal is for us to become a living epistle, a perfect reflection of the truth written in the Bible. Every day, as we sojourn on earth, we must put the Word of God into practice; it’s not just for us to quote. It should affect our:
Yes, the Word of God guides us not to sin – but it does more than that. It seems many people are scared of God’s word because they look at it as just a book of the law. A book that condemns them, highlights their shortcomings, and makes them feel unholy. So they stay away from it, being scared of its judgement. That is not what the Bible is for; God’s design was not for it to judge you but to show you His plan for you and how you can live it out. In the Old Testament, God showed us the standard of righteousness and made it clear that no man can achieve it by themselves. In the New Testament, he showed us how to receive the gift of righteousness and work in it through Jesus Christ our Lord. David had just some books of the Old Testament, yet he recognized it as both the book of the law (Psalm 119:11) and also a lamp unto His feet (Psalm 119:105). Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalm 119:105 The Word, being a lamp, is an instructor, a guide to conversations, to decisions, to literally everything that we do. When you begin to study the Word to live it out, you will have a different experience, and it will produce a higher life for you. Hallelujah.
