Narrative

Story in this passage

Isaac and Abimelech

God confirms the Abrahamic covenant to Isaac during famine and tells him not to go to Egypt. Isaac misrepresents Rebekah, grows wealthy, disputes over wells with local herdsmen, moves to Beersheba, and makes a covenant with Abimelech.

Setting
Gerar, the Philistine territory, and Beersheba.

Main events
God renews the promise, Isaac fears for his life, wells are reopened and contested, Abimelech seeks peace, and Isaac worships.

Why it matters
Isaac inherits both the promise and some of Abraham’s weaknesses, yet God establishes him in the land.
