Yesterday, I kicked a balloon.
For context, the balloon was my kids but I played with it too…lol
I kicked with so much force, as if it should go so far.
But I was disappointed.
The balloon floated like nothing really happened to it.
If it were a football, it would pull down anything across its path.
But this balloon didn’t bulge – it barely moved.
It wasn’t its fault, I had a wrong expectation.
What was I expecting, for it to fly?
Simple physics tells me why it won’t.
The balloon doesn’t have weight, so no matter the pressure I applied to it, it won’t go as far as any other item that has weight.
The force I was applying to it had to be multiplied by the weight of the balloon for the balloon to be propelled.
Pardon my terminology, I am not good with Science.
It’s similar to kicking a feather or a piece of paper.
Like the balloon, many of us expect a supernatural push from God.
We expect him to forcefully advance us in different areas of life.
Is He not God? He has all the power – He once rained down food (Exodus 16:4), so what can He not do?
Yes, God can do anything within the integrity of His character and nature.
In fact, it is not a matter of whether He can do anything or not.
He has done all things and given us all that we need for life and Godliness (2 Peter 1:3).
But the question is – what is your weight?
How will what God has done propel you when you are as light as a balloon?
There is no weight for his efforts to bear you and thrust you forward.
The scripture says of the Israelite that the word preached [to them] did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. (Heb. 4:2)
The Word came like the kick, but there was no faith (no weight) – so it didn’t profit them.
So what produces faith? The same Word of God –
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17
You need to literally fill yourself with the Word of God so you can experience all He has done for you already.
The more weight you bear based on His Word in you, the better the results you get in your life.
His Word is the propellant, the fuel that burns in you to make you what God talks about.
Every other weight apart from that of His Word must be shed.
You must put on His yoke, and His burden is light (Matthew 11:30) – Yes, it feels light – it is not burdensome, but that will give you the weight to fly.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
When you are full of the Word of God, you’ll bear sufficient weight enough for you to soar on the wings of the Holy Spirit like an Eagle.
That is the level where you don’t even need to flap your wings; you just need to rest on His wings.
The Word of God is what you need to carry you through financial difficulties.
It is the weight you need to have a good relationship; it will give you emotional peace and stability.
You remember the Scripture says in Heb. 12:1 –
…let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.
How you drop the weight that easily besets you, including sin, is to become weighty with the Word of God.
Add some bulk and substance to yourself through the Word of God.
That is where you become heavy and cannot be tossed to and fro with the winds of doctrines as described in Ephesians 4:14.
Many people want to add weight to their body (could be good sometimes), but this is the weight you need more – being filled with the Word of God.
Nourished in all ramifications – understanding the mindset of God about different aspects of your life. Your health, finances, relationship, entertainment, and emotions – that is the real balanced diet.
Some want to lose weight from their body, good, but the real weight to lose is that of envy, pride, bitterness, jealousy, toxic information from Social Media, negative news from different media, viral-useless-helpless Social Media content, which includes but is not limited to:
- Derogatory comedy clips
- Content for Mockery (in the form of comedy)
- Sexually explicit content (sometimes in the guise of comedy)
- Totally useless stories whose characters are not soliciting your advice and cannot access your opinions (but you give your opinions anyway)
- Unfruitful and unnecessary Arguments
- Mockery/Sarcasm towards God
- Content with no intent to educate intellectually or with specialized knowledge
- Content that spreads and amplifies what the Devil does (rape, murder, violence, etc.) in the name of ‘News’ but ends up destroying your imagination. You not only get the headlines, but you also go into all the details, read all the 1099 comments – digging and digging, only that you don’t get paid for your investigative journalism that nobody asked for. Even the journalists don’t do as much as you.
- Content that belittles God and Christianity.
- On and on the list goes
Do you know how to get rid of that weight? Very Easy!
Take on the right weight, focus on the Word of God, and you will lose those.
Fortunately, God gave us a plumb line to check if it is a worthy weight to add or not.
Phillippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Any content you cannot think on should not be consumed, and the standard on what to think is set in the scripture above. Before you watch or read anything, think if it is pure or of good report.
Interestingly, even a message from a ‘Pastor’ might not be worthy to consume – so you should judge by the same standard.
This does not rule out intellectual content. If you are a professional, content from your industry is very important, and it is usually honest and even true, especially Case Studies:). For instance, as a Search Engine Optimizer, I consume content around the latest Google Updates, AI, Solopreneurship, WordPress, etc.
God expects us to be excellent.
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
This verse was written to a Pastor (P. Timothy), but the same principle applies to all professions.
Another question to ask is – what do I stand to gain?
If I watched a video of how a man burgled a home, and the occupants are terrified, etc. How does that bless me? How does it edify me? That is a useless junk weight into my mind.
It adds no value. Of course, I can see the headline, and that is enough for me to be aware. With that awareness, I can intercede for the people involved; I don’t need to watch how he violates people.
This will help you a lot.
You would see that some weight of fear, anxiety, unforgiveness, etc., was needless. You didn’t need to carry them.
When you start adding the right weight, they will dissipate effortlessly.
Jesus said – Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)
Drop the weight – He has rest for you.
That verse is not a promise; it’s a done deal.
If you come to Jesus, you have rest.
I know you might be a believer already, but come with that weight, it could be:
- A loan
- A relationship problem
- Health condition
- A mental unrest/depression
- Lack
- Financial challenge
- Fear/Anxiety
Whatever it is, first of all, drop it – you don’t need to know how it will be resolved.
Drop the weight at His feet, take His peace.
Then you will find direction.
The lack of peace is hindering you from knowing what to do and seeing the direction He has for you.
Say a word of Prayer right now to the Lord Jesus, and you will see His presence.
Blessed be God forever!
